Chicken Charlie or Bonchon Chicken?

A few months ago, I got to try the much raved about Bonchon Chicken at Libis, Quezon City. It was unique take on the usual friend chicken as it brags about its double-fried chicken drenched in soy garlic sauce. At that time, Bonchon only had its branch at Libis. It has made for itself quite a crowd, judging by the 12,000+ fans on its Facebook page and the 7 newly opened branches around the Metro.

It was only recently that I discovered Chicken Charlie at Katipunan. I must have missed its opening because it was located on the second floor of the Oracle building and the signage wasn't very visible if you were always driving quite fast. Apparently, Chicken Charlie has been in the Metro since 2010, its first branch being at Amoranto St., corner Retiro St., QC. It was the first to bring the Korean double-fried chicken concept to the Philippines.

4 pcs Soy Garlic drumsticks (199Php)

Potato wedges (49Php)

As I took my first bite, my nurse slash med student self nudged me, "Double fried? Seriously?". But then my front teeth were already a millimeter away from that extra crispy chicken skin and my olfactory nerves had already transmitted all that soy garlic goodness to my brain. What choice did I have?!

So then after that guilt-laden bite all I could think of was, "Where have I been all this time?" Missing out on all that chicken goodness. And I took another bite. Not to mention their first branch is quite close to St. Luke's and their Manila branch is now at Robinsons Ermita, where I practically lived my life as a UP student.

Personally, I thought Chicken Charlie was a lot more tastier than Bonchon. I believe they are still working on expanding their menu, but in the meantime, just the chicken itself is quite enough for me. :)

If you like Bonchon, this deserves more then a try. :)
